Conference on Health Aspect of the Tsunami Disaster in Indonesia, Medan 26-28 July 2005

Six months have passed since the devastating earthquake and tsunami which hit the provinces of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam and North Sumatra on 26 December 2004 which had caused fatalities of more than 131,000 people, with of some 49,600 remain missing � mostly presumed dead.

It is now time to review and evaluate the health aspect in relation to the emergency and recovery phases among all stakeholders and victims themselves to strengthen the future Emergency and Disaster Preparedness, Response and Development (EPRD) programme for Indonesia.

Therefore, the Ministry of Health of Republic of Indonesia with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) will conduct the Conference on the Health Aspect of Tsunami in Indonesia (Lessons Learnt). The conference will be held on:
